You Have To Go Forward To Go Back...

The original Charlie and The Chocolate Factory is one fantastic movie. My adoration for Johnny Depp aside, his Willie Wonka was just a tad too creepy for my liking. Regardless, as I sat in my History class this evening I recalled when the lucky golden ticket holders were first entering the candy room and freaked out as they traversed the psychedelic hallway. As they screamed to go back, Mr. Wonka explained they needed to press on...you have to go forward to go back.

This a great summation of my fear of World History. Not only am I geographically challenged (truly, I think the creators of MapQuest should be sainted) but my knowledge of world history is not stellar. Ask me about the history of Coco Chanel. Ask me about Simone De Beauvoir's influence on existentialism. Ask me about Collette Willie and her amazing life. Everything else eludes me.

So after many years of intimidation, I am taking on World History. Mr. Wonka states, "Little surprises around every corner, but nothing dangerous." I certainly hope he is correct, as I am hoping to obtain a broad knowledge of our history and how we got to where we are by the end of this semester. This could be important if I am ever going to take my place in it.
