Pack Your Bags! We're On Our Way!

Okay! Get those bags packed! We're just about ready to hit the road!

I know a few days ago I was all like, "Waah I'm being forced by my family to go on vacation." But the truth finally set me free. They collectively told me they love me very much, but if I don't get away and decompress they were going to draw straws to see who gets to put the pillow over my head during the night. Enough said.

I am now really excited to get on the road! I know my last post was a bit of a downer...it was a not-so-great day. But once again, dear David rocked my world and I felt redeemed. The loose ends are all tied up and by this time tomorrow we will be half-way to the Gulf of Mexico. Bring on the SPF 50!

While a 23-hour drive down I-95 may seem a bit daunting, I must admit I kinda enjoy it. I usually drive the late-night into the morning shift. Everything is peaceful. I pray, I think, I do ab crunches (don't ask), and just get my thoughts in order.

The first time we drove I was not sure if I was up to the task. But the road is a great way to reconnect as a family. We are in this confined area and it gives us uninterrupted time to really talk. And laugh. Speaking of laugh, did I tell you how hard I laughed when I learn how anti-climatic "South of the Border" in the Carolinas is? All my life I thought it was some magnificent place; everyone had a "South of the Border" bumper sticker. The big road signs advising you're getting closer begin 300 miles before you are anywhere close to getting there. When I was finally saw all the lights, I felt like Ralphie in "A Christmas Story" when he finally got his Little Orphan Annie secret-decoder ring:

Another legend shattered to dust.

As I said before, everyone use the facilities now, 'cuz we're not stopping! I am really excited and look forward to sharing the week with you. Last weather report was blue sky and temps in the eighties. I promise...you'll hear no more whining from me.

  3. After 23 hours in a car I suspect "South of the Border" would look like heaven, guess not, thanks for the warning.
    Have fun.
