Anyone else in love with the writings of Jane Austen to the degree I am knows, “It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.” So says the greatest heroine of all time, Miss Elizabeth Bennett at the opening of the greatest story of all time.
However, as the summer twilight wanes, I have determined there are several universally acknowledged truths in my world begging to be explored. So here we go...
In my world, it is a truth universally acknowledged that the brother
In my world, it is a truth universally acknowledged that the ability to laugh will cure just about anything. Nothing is more soothing than sides bursting from laughter. Except maybe a massage, but those are much harder to come by.
In my world it is a truth universally acknowledged that every woman has the right to change her mind...along with anyone else's she can convince of her worldly wisdom.
In my world it is a truth universally acknowledged that age is nothing to fear. I am more confident, happy, relaxed, content, and secure in my forties than I ever was in my twenties. And let me tell you, I have a fierce group of women-friends who can claim the same.
In my world it is a truth universally acknowledged that my sister and sister-in-law are amazing women who have seen me at my worst and like me anyway...for this I am eternally grateful and they will always be held in my highest regard.
In my world it is a truth universally acknowledged that a smile and a hug can sometimes do more than all the money in the world.
In my world it is a truth universally acknowledged that everything ...EVERYTHING...happens for a reason. We just need to let go and let God. Sometimes answered prayer is not the answer we were necessarily looking for. We don't know the divine plan because, well, we couldn't handle it.
In my world it is a truth universally acknowledged that I have probably learned so much more from my children, their friends, my faith formation students, and the young people I know than they have ever learned from me.
In my world it is a truth universally acknowledged that a great pair of shoes, string of pearls, and little black dress can take you around the world and back again.
In my world it is a truth universally acknowledged that all you need is love...and you know that for sure. As Frank Sinatra sang, "To love and be loved, that's what it is all about."
So there it is...some truths universally acknowledged in my world. There are so many more but the day was long, the hour grows late and, well, I'm tired. I would love to hear some of your truths universally acknowledged. And should you find mine silly, I close with a final quote from the greatest story of all time:
"Laugh as much as you choose, but you will not laugh me out of my opinion."
Great list...I suppose I would add "You are what you think" and "Everything is relative".
ReplyDeleteSide splitting laughter does wonders! I don't get to laugh like that much anymore because of the whole lost in translation thing, it happens on a rare occasion, and when it does, I'm in heaven!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how it works that a smile and hug can make everything feel so much better, but they really really do.
ReplyDeletewell said! [you & Jane ;)]
